Your S.C. Aging Council

The Advisory Council on Aging advises the state Department on Aging. It has one seat for each of the state's 10 aging regions and five seats chosen statewide. The Governor appoints every member. Tap a region to see who holds its seat.

Kaitlin Furlough represents Area 4

Irmo is in Area 4 (Fairfield, Lexington, Newberry and Richland counties). Kaitlin Furlough holds that seat as of the council's September 8, 2026 roster. One seat on the council is still open: At-Large 3, which any South Carolina resident who knows the issues older adults face can apply for, including people in Irmo. To be considered, send the state's application and a short statement of why you want to serve to:

Meeting agendas

Tap a meeting for a summary

Why the list has gaps: the law says the council meets at least once a quarter, but the state only posted agendas for these meetings. I checked every week of the Legislature’s public meeting calendar back to late 2019. Meetings referenced in the agendas, such as February 2025, August and November 2024, and November 2025, were never posted there. Meetings are usually at 10 a.m. at the Department on Aging, 1301 Gervais Street, Suite 350, Columbia, and are open to the public. Minutes can be requested from the Department on Aging. For news between meetings, see the Department on Aging’s Facebook and YouTube below.
